Naomi Sego

Naomi's Story
Naomi is one of the first 5 ladies of Gospel Music. She is a member of the SGMA Hall of Fame, and featured on the award winning Gaither Homecoming Series and the Grand Ole Opry!
Naomi is celebrating 65 years full-time ministry.
The name of Naomi & The Segos is synonymous with Gospel Music and Christian Entertainment. Originally starting out singing as The Harmony Kings, James, W.R. and Lamar Sego soon changed the name of the group to the Sego Brothers Quartet. Success followed and they began appearing on WMAZ-TV in Macon, GA in the late 50's. One afternoon, one of the group members fell ill and could not make the show that day, so James asked his wife Naomi if she would fill in on the show. That live TV show was the catalyst for Naomi to be officially brought into the group and become officially known as the Sego Brothers and Naomi. Their first album had the song titled "Is My Lord Satisfied With Me" and because of that song, the project sold over 300,000 copies in the first few weeks. Touring appearances soon followed and in 1962, the Sego Brothers and Naomi recorded another album featuring the song "Sorry, I Never Knew You", which became the first million selling gospel song in music history to that point. Appearances on the Grand Old Opry, and television appearances on the hugely popular syndicated "Gospel Singing Jubilee" TV show further cemented the Sego Brothers and Naomi's legacy in Gospel Music. Lamar Sego left the group and returned to Macon, Georgia and formed the group called the Lamar Sego Family, and W.R. Sego retired from the road, leaving James and Naomi to continue the group. After James passed away in 1979, Naomi fought the odds and continued the group. In the mid 80's the decision was made to officially change the name of the group to Naomi & The Segos.
Naomi & The Segos are still traveling and continue to share the good news of jesus in song.
With the combination of Naomi's rich & notable, alto voice as the anchor, Jerry Gill of Tifton, Ga singing the tenor and handling the emcee duties on-stage, and Josh Phillips of Newnan, Ga singing harmony/baritone, people all across the United States and Canada are commenting on how this combination sounds exactly like the Sego Brothers and Naomi of yesteryear, and the group is seeing an increased popularity. The group is becoming more in demand on the concert circuit again, and are booked on several major upcoming Gospel Music events. Naomi was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame (www.sgma.org) in 2001, and her late husband James was posthumously inducted in 2007, making them only one of 3 husband-wife combinations in the history of Southern Gospel Music. Now in her 65th year of full-time ministry and Christian entertainment, Naomi & The Segos shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
